How to start and host a book club
Posted by ChicPear under Social events
Thinking of starting a book club but not sure where to start? Here are some quick tips to get you started:
1/ Select a book that will likely appeals to most of your friends/guests.
2/Select a venue that is within proximity of most of your friends/guests and is cosy. You will also want to make sure this is a place where you and your guests will freely be able to talk as a group.
3/Let your guests know that you will be serving light refreshments and snacks, if anything, that will get them to read the book and show up! Consider snacks that are not messy and won’t result in your guests ruining their books. How about serving some meatballs, tapas-style or cup cakes with some Chic Pear Designs toppers that enhance your book club theme (see example below)?
4/Let your guests know about the event at least 3 weeks in advance so that they have time to read the book and can clear their calendar for the big day. You probably want to sent them an email or an invitation via snail mail such as the one we designed above. Email us at info@chicpeardesigns.com if you’re interested in such an electronic or printed design for your next book club.
5/There are simple questions you can ask during the event like “What did you think about the book?” but in order to get a good discussion going, you may want to ask some more interesting questions that will spark input even from those who did not read like “What did you think about Lisa’s go getter attitude? Do you think of yourself as a go getter?” or “This took place in Seattle, does that strike as a popular honeymoon destination? Have you been?”.
6/Give your guests something to remember this event by so that they will want to come back to another book club. We’ve designed book plates for several book clubs and will happily design a customized bookplate such as the one shown above for your guests. Email us at info@chicpeardesigns.com
That’s it, happy reading! Keep in mind that we’re always interested in new projects, if there’s anything else you’re interested in for your book club, feel free to comment here….Lastly, what are you reading these days/
